Mariah Carey’s Las Vegas residency kicked off in April 2024 with an initial run of sixteen dates at the Dolby Live. The praised show sees the star celebrating her iconic 2005 album, ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’, as well as performing other smash hits from throughout her epic career. Carey took to the big stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live to launch the 16-date residency exactly 19 years after the album dropped. After selling more than a whopping 10 million copies worldwide and bringing the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the very top of the charts, she’s inviting fans to celebrate with her!

The enduring triumph of Emancipation of Mimi was fueled by the number one smash hit “We Belong Together” and fan favorite singles “It’s Like That,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,” “Fly Like a Bird” and “Say Somethin’.” The ultra platinum edition of the record was issued on 10 October 2005 and delivered another major number one with “Don’t Forget About Us.” Her latest studio album is 2018’s ‘Caution’. Since then, she has been exciting fans by releasing anniversary editions of previous records, and issuing a companion record to her 2020 Apple TV+ special, Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special.

The Celebration of MiMi

It comes as no surprise that Mariah Carey had plenty of options to choose from when putting the pieces together for her brand new Las Vegas party. The Celebration of Mimi Live in Las Vegas sees the superstar cook up her own version of a Taylor Swift-style Eras Tour by chronicling her personal journey and epic musical career with a number of smash hit songs interwoven by videos and a voiceover taken from her New York Times best-selling memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey. The last run of dates opened with Mariah Carey’s voice describing the emotions and perspective of “little Mariah.”

“She’s been scared and alone for so long, and yet, through the darkness, she’s never lost her light,” Mariah Carey says in the voiceover that played as the venue blanketed in darkness except for the light shimmering behind a floor-to-stage curtain with a cutout spelling Mimi in huge lettering. “She’s made herself known through my songs, her yearning heard over the airwaves or seen on screens. Millions of people know her, but have never known her. She is little Mariah and much of this is her vision as she saw it.”

The Hollywood Reporter attended a show and revealed their experiences. The curtains unveiled Mariah Carey standing center stage as she leaped into her debut single, “Vision of Love” they said. Her setlist, sung in chronological order, followed as she powered through the early days of her record-smashing career with songs including, “Emotions,” “Make It Happen” and the remake of Michael Jackson’s “I’ll Be There.”

“We’re making our way to Mimi, OK,” Mariah Carey explained to the sold out venue. The Hollywood Reporter said, “hundreds of whom came dressed for the occasion in Mimi-inspired ensembles, some of which were adorned with sequins, butterflies or rainbows.”

The pre-Mimi part of the concert featured unforgettable performances of “Can’t Let Go,” “Hero,” “Without You,” “Fantasy,” “Always Be My Baby,” “Looking In,” a “Butterfly” interlude, “Babydoll,” “Breakdown,” “Close My Eyes,” and a “Heartbreaker” and “Honey” medley.

From this must-see residency, expect to see lots of dazzling costume changes, expert choreography, and all your fave songs! “The show was classic Carey,” the reporter said. “At one point, her longtime makeup artist Kristofer Buckle came out to do onstage touch-ups. She had a little help getting to center stage at another point when she was flanked by two men who carried the train of her dress. “It’s bejeweled, darling, and we gotta keep it the way it is — bejeweled,” she said.” Last year’s ensembles were styled by Wilfredo Rosado, and paid homage to moments in her career with stunning looks by Gaurav Gupta, Sophie Couture, Falguni Shane, Laura Basci, Robert Wun, among others.

Alongside The Emancipation of Mimi’s biggest hits like “We Belong Together,” “Shake it Off” and “Say Something,” Mariah Carey also brought the house down as she sung “deep cuts” like the fan favorite “Circles,” a song that she said she penned with “the late, great Big Jim White,” and “Your Girl.” Mariah Carey also credited her longtime musical director Daniel Moore with egging her on to perform “Don’t Forget About Us.” She admitted to almost skipping over that track because “I didn’t know if people remembered it anymore.” But as you could imagine, nobody at the Dolby Live needed to be reminded as they responded with claps, cheers and a standing ovation.

From her next run of dates, you can expect this kind of experience and more. Mariah Carey is a born entertainer, and Mariah Carey: The Celebration of Mimi Live is a true testament to that!!
